Well it's less than a week now until Veteran's Day.  A day to thank a veteran if you haven't done so already each day in the past.  It's a day to come together with the local American Legion clubs and celebrate those who have sacrificed for their country and remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice to keep us free.
I've got a schedule of events here for the Veteran's Day programs in my home county, Red Lake County on November 11th.  We've got a special guest, or should I say, guests!  The Kriesel family will be making their way up north from their home in Cottage Grove, MN to be with us.  Here's how things are going to go:

8:45am - Veteran's Day program at Lafayette High School in Red Lake Falls, MN - my alma mater and also the alma mater of fallen soldier and good friend of mine, Sgt. Corey Rystad who was killed in combat on December 2nd, 2006.  John Kriesel was over seas with Corey during his deployment, and he was also in the same humvee that got destroyed by a 200-lb. IED that took the life of Corey and Bryan McDonough, both of Minnesota.  John almost lost his life, but survived with the help of fellow soldiers who made a quick effort to get him wrapped up and stopped the extensive bleeding from losing both legs from the knees down.  John will be the guest speaker at this event.  In Red Lake Falls, I will also be giving a special presentation after John's speech that morning.

Following that ceremony, we'll be on the road to Oklee, MN for the Veteran's Day program at Red Lake County Central high school for a 12:30pm start.  It will be a similar deal there, with John speaking to the students, staff and community members that are on hand.  There will be no special presentation for me there, just the honor of introducing John before he speaks.

That evening, everyone is welcome to come out to the Red Lake Falls American Legion Post 22 for a Q&A with John, who will be talking about his experience, take your questions and also have books available for sale and to sign.  John's book, titled "Still Standing" is available on his website as well if you can't make it but would like a copy: www.stillstandingstory.com

If you get the chance, come out and meet John, Katie and their two boys!  It's going to be a great Veteran's Day in Red Lake County for 2010!  A speech, or should I say - speaking from the heart - John will deliver a message you will not want to miss.  For young and old alike!

Hope to see you in Red Lake Falls, Oklee or both on November 11th!!
