From one state to the next

Posted by Kurt Philion on Tuesday, June 21, 2011,

In the last four days, it’s been two more steps forward, along with a bit of a road trip between them.  In five running events this year, I’ve now set five personal records (PRs) and accomplished three goals.
To start the year, my goal as noted in previous blogs was to accomplish a 5K in under 24 minutes (done on May 1st in Eagan, MN) and a half marathon in under two hours.  That’s actually been my goal ever since my first half I did back in 2007.  My goal for that run was two and a ha...

Between the vertebrae of your spine are 23 discs which act as spacers and shock absorbers. These discs have a soft, gel-like center surrounded by layers of fibrous tissues which hold the gel-like material inside.  Think of a cream filled donut and that’s similar to a disc. Two more

Posted by Kurt Philion on Saturday, June 11, 2011,
In less than a week I'll be taking part in two more races for this year.  This will be run event five and six for Freedom Runs - as I've completed two 5K's, the first of four halfs & a 25 mile stint that consisted of 84 'down & backs' along with 80 laps (20 miles) on the track in Waubun in line with the Mahnomen County Relay for Life.  That should be the only event that isn't an actual race that I'll be taking part in this year.  At some points, even that turned into a race just to get done i...

You’d think after 25 miles of running, well, not just running, but doing a few other old football warm-ups including 100 yard back pedals, more than just the thighs and back would be sore.  That’s about all today.  I dreaded getting out of bed as I laid there this morning.  I’m just so used to stepping foot, one by one and almost falling over from the pain when I ran my first full marathon that next morning.  This time I felt as though I just had a long training run the day before.  The...

25-4-Drex

It’s not an actual race coming up, but it’s for a good cause.  This Friday June 3rd is the Mahnomen County Relay for Life.  Last year I took part in this event by running twenty miles (80 laps) around the track I do most of my outdoors training – at the Mahnomen High School track.  It took just under four hours to complete with about a 45 minute break in the middle during the lighting of the luminaries.
This year I’m going to switch it up a little bit and go a little farther.  In ord...
